    EXPLORE

Rainbow appears during the eruption of a geyser on a sunny day.
Every day, Pōhutu geyser erupts around twenty times, to the delight of local and foreign tourists exploring the Te Puia site in Rotorua.

Pōhutu Geyser, a natural wonder of New Zealand

The tallest active geyser in the southern hemisphere can be found here in Rotorua. It’s called Pōhutu, which in Māori means “constant gush”. Several times a day, its water jets reach a height of 30 metres. For me, this is one of the most spectacular sights in this volcanic region.

However, a multitude of other places invite you to discover hot springs, mud pools, geysers of various sizes and more. And don’t forget the beautiful Kuirau Park, located right downtown and free of charge.

All in all, from one place to the next, it smokes, it gurgling with one single constant: the wonder of the eyes! And, of course, the smell of rotten eggs from the sulfur! Rotorua promises to be a must-see destination. And of course, Māori culture here offers a wealth of legends, traditional arts and cultural performances.
